MIRSURG is a Specific Targeted Research Project (STREP) funded by the ICT (Information and Communications Technologies) part of the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme (DG Information Society & Media - Photonics) with a grant of € 2.8 M. The overall cost of the project including the own contributions of the participants amounts to € 3.9 M. Five of the nine partners are academic organizations and four of them are industrial enterprises, among them 3 SMEs.

MIRSURG addresses the Objective ICT-2-3.5: Photonic components and subsystems of the ICT Work Programme but is strongly application driven, focusing on the development of dedicated photonic sources for one specific application in the area of health – minimally invasive surgery (MIS).

The Grant Agreement No. 224042 with the European Commission was signed on 23rd April and the project started on 1st June 2008. The duration of the project is 3 years.
