The Institut de Ciències
Fotòniques is a non-profit agency founded in 2002 in Barcelona
aimed at advancing the limits of scientific and technological knowledge
in optical sciences including quantum optics, nonlinear optics,
biophotonics and nano-optics. ICFO hosts 15 research groups who
use some 45 laboratories and one nanophotonics fabrication facility
in a 9000 m2 dedicated building. The center is engaged in both research,
and education and training of MSc/PhD students and post-doctoral
researchers. Also, ICFO collaborates actively with many leading
European research centers and universities, as well as with leading
institutes worldwide.
ICFO researchers may have different affiliations. Some of the Group
Leaders, such as Prof. M. Ebrahim-Zadeh, are officially appointed
as full-time “ICREA Research Professors”. ICREA stands
for “Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies”,
a non-profit foundation supported by the Regional Government of
Catalonia, Ministry of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise.
